I got some yarn as a pressie, isn't it pretty? I had to cast on right away. I am making my own Christmas shrug. Just the right amount of yarn in the right weight.
Hope everyone had a great holiday!

I got a couple of better pics of Habitat on.
We went Wednesday night to see the Macy's parade balloons. It was ridiculously crowded.
We had a great traditional lunch in a pub today and walked around Washington Square park after, prior to the inevitable nap.
I decided to do the addition to the Puff (or Jabba) that I have been thinking about for awhile now. I wasn't sure about the look at first but I changed the placement and it looks more how I envisioned it. More pics and discussion on that to come as it gets completed.

I like the size, I did the large. I didn't have much of a problem reading the pattern, it seemed pretty intuitive. However, and this is me being picky, why do the cables, the 2 strand design not go over under over, but its always same strand over? Is there a reason for that? My analness/ocd, whatever you want to call it, looks at the pattern and my eye catches on the fact that the weaving lines don't actually weave, and there is always the same one on top. Does this make sense? Maybe I just need someone to tell me to stop obsessing. But we are knitters, and its easy to pick apart something you spent hours on. Usually I have to tell that picky voice to just shut up because the "function" of the hat is to keep your head warm. And it does that. But I blame my architecture background for that little voice whispering "form".
I think this is the issue I have with shawls, only the other way around. Before anyone jumps on me, I AGREE with you they are beautiful, intricate, and take an inordinate amount of time to create that gorgeous flimsy lace. But, and as usual with me its a big one, I fail to see the function of these gossamer shawls. They are definately not keeping me warm, and if its not cold they're making me hot, probably falling off and dragging in the mud as well. As far as the thicker ones people wear as a sort of kerchief around the neck, I just think its my aversion to anything "western", and the whole thing about it falling off. I could just be being difficult, picky, and high maintence but I embrace these derogatory adjectives because after all, it also means I know what I like.

I don't know if you will recognize this anthropology dress from a posting about a month ago, with a pic from their Union Square store window, raving about it, positive raving on gorgeousness of dress, negative raving on their prices. I grabbed this off Pinterest as someone had titled it "knit". Ok more raving. Brace yourself. Pet peeve. This is not knitted, it is embroidered. People usually do this with crocheted and knitted items. If you don't know the difference just call it pretty and leave it at that.
I grabbed this pic off Pinterest too, and if anyone has any info on it please let me know as I find it difficult to find sources sometimes from Pinterest. Genius detailing. I especially adore when knitted garments allow the stitches to follow the form of the body, or in some way define the shape of the body in a new way.
The last one is an Alexander Wang. Just lovely.

Also, how cute are these guys?! I just want to squeeze em.
So as I am sure it is apparent, I have not been knitting. It kinda sux. Ok it really sux, I feel like I am going through withdraws. Seriously I went to a friends house last night to hang out and I had started teaching her how to knit last month and I saw her scarf we started, just sitting there, and my hands were itching to pick it up and just knit on it some. Not all of it...just a little. But I didn't! I practiced restraint. Also I got called out, but that's beside the point.
Reasons for not knitting :
I got sick when it did that freak snow about a couple of weeks ago here in nyc. It was glorious. I have never lived somewhere where it snows. And I promptly got really sick. Just starting to feel better.
Still trying to get in a stable job.
Still trying to get apt organized.
I hate moving.
Also, on my huge chunky brioche sweater I am at a stand still because I am going to have to tink quite a lot and I hope and pray to the knitting goddesses that it will be salvagable.
Mostly though if I have any free time lately it has been devoted to organizing house.
I am also starting to work on a miniature knit that I will share once it gets going, using needles I got at Rhinebeck. I have no idea how to size them, I'm guessing they are like size 000.
Also my mother is coming for a visit this weekend, so I may get some time in to knit by next weekend. Fingers crossed. Except when I'm knitting. That would just be too hard.
